No More Spectators: A SETX Call to Action
Jen Gives a Call to Action to Join Southeast Texas Impact
To help us grow our following, please share this on the social media platform of your choice!
SETX Impact Initiative, a Southeast Texas-based progressive organization, emphasizes community empowerment, civic education, and collective action to influence public policy that supports positive change in our region. We are committed to initiatives that encourage voter engagement, break through misinformation, further social and environmental justice, and worker rights, and amplify marginalized voices. We encourage participation through volunteer work, development of educational materials, activism, advocacy, and partnerships that emphasize unity, local empowerment, and bold solutions to systemic challenges, aiming to shift our region’s civic culture.
Building community is the foundation of our organization. We must connect, listen, and learn to work together to improve our political landscape. This requires building trust and working in spaces that are not always familiar to us individually. Community service and mutual aid initiatives are core tenets of our work. We make a real impact when we work together. And with collective engagement in events and calls to action, we can support multiple areas of importance. SETX Impact Initiative is also heavily focused on activism and advocacy. Activism is direct action (like protests or rallies) to bring attention to issues affecting our community, while advocacy involves working within systems—such as contacting lawmakers or lobbying—to influence policies. Both are necessary and work congruously to create change: activism to raise awareness and advocacy to push for solutions.
Core Mission & Activities
Advancing Progressive Policies
We advocate for policies that center people over profit—such as environmental protections, voting rights, and social justice—by educating and mobilizing community members.Civic Engagement & Voter Education
Through workshops, town halls, community clean-ups, and voter drives, we encourage active participation in democratic processes.Building Community Dialogue
We create platforms for thoughtful discussions on grassroots issues in Southeast Texas, and host events from town halls to socials to protests to lobbying in order to connect residents with each other and with their elected leaders.Collective Action & Advocacy
The teams organize petitions, local marches (like extensions of the “People’s March. “No Kings, and “Hands Off”), voter education events, and advocacy campaigns, aiming to influence public policy and build community bonds.
Vision & Impact
Our goal is to empower informed citizens in Southeast Texas to take part in democracy—through education, advocacy, and community-driven action. We work to transform civic awareness into real-world legislative and social change.
Operating as a grassroots coalition, we are open to residents from diverse backgrounds and focus on state, regional, and local issues—bridging community needs with progressive policy goals.
SETX Impact Initiative is looking for passionate, dedicated residents of Southeast Texas to join in our events and calls to action. We stay busy and have made significant headway locally. This has resulted in tremendous growth and opportunity.

SETX Impact Initiative is all about equipping Southeast Texans to become active, informed participants in shaping public policy—especially progressive causes—through education, engagement, and collective civic action. This is important work. It can be overwhelming and, yes, inconvenient. After all, we all work, have families, and are struggling to survive financially. But we can all find multiple reasons not to engage. It is, after all, how we got here. Democracy is not a spectator sport. A government by the people requires the people to participate actively in protecting it and developing legislation. What we have to ask ourselves is: If we don’t jump in and do this work now, how much worse is this going to get, and will it be too late to effect substantive change in the future?
The more of us that join the effort, the more manageable this work becomes.
Find your reason. Maybe it is your kids. The environment. A loved one feeling the strain in our current political landscape. A dedication to democracy and the lofty ideals that America promises. Whatever your reason, you only need one. And whatever your skill level or time available for commitment, there is a place for you.
As John Lewis said, “If not now, then when? If not you, then who?”
Are you a spectator or a game changer? Now is the time to make a real difference. And it is each of our responsibility to be a part of it.
